He does a great job weaving politics into this story by continuously talking about the poltical situation in Frnace. He talks about Napoleon and other poltical figures of that time.
He uses politics by talking about the French Revolution and the rise and fall of Napoleon's empire. It is very effective, it helps with setting and nice to know the history behind the time of the story. This makes it easier to read the story and process the information with given history.
He uses the Bonapartist and their movements. The letter involves the Bonapartist which imprisons Dantes. He inserts his own opinion about politics and how he feels at the time. He discuses the French Revolution and Napoleon.
Dumas uses the tumultuous times of the early 1800's when Napoleon was threatening to return to conquer France as the background for the early portion of his novel. This allows for him to present a convincing reason as to why Dantes is imprisoned, as well as to create some tension between Nortier and Franz later on and save Valentine from being married to him.
